5 Things Everyone Should Know About Dandruff

Upon reaching the puberty stage, most of us get to complain why is is that when we are young, we do not seem to have dandruff? Do you think this question suggests a fact about dandruff? Surprisingly, NO! Dandruff occur to anyone, male or female, at any age.

Everyone has dandruff or at least some dandruff including those who are bald. Why? This is simply because every human scalp sheds dead cells. These dead cells flake off as the new cells of the scalp push if outward from the deeper skin layers.

For some people, dandruff flakes are highly noticeable as their scalps are very dry and the flakiness is more obvious. Luckily for some people, dandruff are very dormantly noticeable as they have a healthier and a more moisturized scalp causing the shedding dead cells to be less flaky and therefore less obvious.

Here are the five helpful tips to get rid of dandruff naturally and artificially.

 1. Lather twice with a medicated shampoo. Wash your hair with an anti-dandruff shampoo and then lather twice. As soon as you step to the shower, wet your hair and start lathering your scalp with a good anti dandruff shampoo. Leave it on until you get finished scrubbing your body and then rinse.

Follow it up with the second lather and then rinse after 5 minutes. This way, a little medication from your shampoo will be left until the next day of reapplication through lathering twice again.

2. Shampoo your hair daily with an anti dandruff shampoo that works for you. While for a normal scalp without much scaliness due to profuse dandruff, shampooing is recommended only 3 times a week, in people affected by too much flakiness and scaliness of dandruff should shampoo daily with an anti dandruff shampoo.

This is because the shampoo is the route to be able to administer the medication to the scalp and therefore should be applied to it constantly and regularly to be effective. Once the condition resolves completely, a decrease in frequency of anti dandruff shampoo application may be instructed by the dermatologist from daily to every other day.

3. Use a virgin olive oil and massage it over the scalp. Virgin olive oil massage over the scalp loosens up the flakes over it and at the same time the massaging action increases the blood circulation and stimulates the oil glands onto the scalp leaving it more moisturized and more conditioned. Leave the oil for 20 minutes and rinse it with an anti-dandruff shampoo.

4. Get some thyme rinse. It is believed that the herb thyme has a medicinal action and helps in alleviating dandruff. Use 4 heaping tablespoons of dried thyme and add them to 2 cups of boiling water. Allow for the mixture to cool and strain the leaves. Use the brew to rinse your hair and do not rinse it until the next day. Save some of the brew for the next treatment in the fridge.

5. Use tar based shampoo for those with dandruff and at the same time oily hair problems. Oily hair and dandruff are not a good combination. Dandruff in this case looks chunky and greasy as well as yellowish. More than an nuisance to the scalp, this is a major turn off. For those whose hair are not blonde or graying, it is recommended to use tar based shampoo like Ionil T or Neutrogena ‘s T/Gel. This way, it reduces dandruff while eliminating too much oiliness.
