5 Things You Should Do To Build More Muscle

5 Things You Should Do To Build More MuscleI have noticed that many of today’s young men are obsessed with going to the gym and lifting weights so that they can develop a great-looking physique.

This is partly inspired by bodybuilders like Nathan Sylvester (pictured right), but is also a part of today’s modern culture where men take great pride in their appearance and want to look their best at all times.

However building a body like this doesn’t happen overnight. It takes a lot of hard work, and if it was that easy to achieve, then we would all be walking around looking like this.

One thing that I have found is that many of my friends often complain that they have hit a plateau and are struggling to build any more muscle, no matter how hard they try.

So here are a few tips if you ever find yourself in this position:

1. Lift More Weights

This is one of the most obvious pieces of advice, but is one that many people completely ignore. The fact is that you can’t keep on lifting the same amount of weights and expect to keep on building muscle forever. Bodybuilding is all about progressing, and the only way to do that is to increase the amount you are lifting as your body becomes stronger.

2. Keep Records

Another thing you should do is to keep records. This will help you analyze your performance and help you monitor all of the exercises that you are currently doing. You can then make changes to this plan when you decide to increase the intensity, as recommended above, and make a note of these changes so that you always have a detailed training plan to follow.

3. Analyze Your Diet

It is often quite easy to see why some people hit a plateau because if you closely analyze their diet, you can see straight away that they are not consuming enough calories. A daily calorie consumption of around 2000-2500 is not going to cut it if you are looking to increase muscle mass, so an easy way to overcome this problem is to eat more food, and ideally clean, healthy food with lots of protein.

4. Consider Supplements

If you find it too difficult (or too expensive) to eat a lot of food every day in order to increase your calorie consumption, you might want to consider taking some supplements after your workout. Protein bars and shakes provide you with an easy way to increase your protein consumption (which obviously aids muscle growth) and mass gainers can also help a great deal if you really want to bulk up because these also contain a lot of protein, but are also high in calories as well.

5. Hit The Gym More Often

One final thing you can do is to go to the gym more often. You will often see people go to the gym once or twice a week, and tell you that they are disappointed with the results. However the truth is that they are not really going to the gym often enough, and in most cases are not doing enough to really build muscle mass when they are there.

Building muscle requires time, patience and motivation, but there is no reason why you cannot achieve your goals if you follow some of these tips whenever you hit a plateau.
