6 Ways to Look and Feel Better Next Summer

With summer still 6 months away, your thoughts will already be turning to how to make yourself look and feel better.

If you’re in search of a helping hand, here are 6 ideas on how you can improve your body from the inside out.

Start the day the right way

With so many fad diets doing the rounds, one certain piece of advice to help you lose a few pounds and improve your self-esteem, is to ensure that your breakfast is protein rich.

Research indicates that consuming 20-30g of protein in the morning is an excellent means of kick-starting your metabolism and promoting weight loss.

In addition, protein gives us a fuller feeling for longer, decreasing the likelihood of us seeking refuge in sugary snacks.

Try something different

Getting active should be a prerequisite to any lifestyle change intended to make you look and feel better. While exercise leads to weight loss and the release of endorphins improves our overall feeling of wellbeing, trying a new sport – as opposed to following the same old gym routine – is a great way to shake things up.

If there’s a team sport that you’ve always fancied trying, why not give that a go? You’ll shake yourself out of your tiresome routine, get some much-needed exercise and even make a few new friends along the way.

Drink more water

Our bodies are made up of around 60 per cent water, but through processes such sweating, breathing and urination, our body is constantly losing that water. If we don’t consume enough to replace it, our body is put under undue stress, as it can’t perform necessary functions such as digestion, blood circulation, the transportation of nutrients and maintenance of the body’s temperature.

Drinking more water daily directly improves your body’s ability to operate effectively, thus giving you more energy and a greater overall feeling of wellbeing.

Try High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT)

Those in the know adopted HIIT training as their preferred method several years ago, but its benefits are only recently becoming recognized by mainstream gym-goers.

HIIT training involves interspersing periods of high intensity training with rest periods. HIIT training is an efficient form and its impact on the body’s resting metabolic rate promotes greater weight loss than steady state training, in under a quarter of the time.

Invest wisely in a new wardrobe

Having made definitive changes to your lifestyle and diet, investing wisely in a new wardrobe is the next step to looking great this summer. If you’re struggling for cash, consider having a clear out at home and selling some of your unwanted CDs, DVDs and games.

When it comes to purchasing items for your new summer wardrobe, always opt for quality, over quantity. A well-made and well-fitted summer dress is always more impressive than a couple of their lower quality equivalents; less is certainly more when it comes to making the right impression this summer.

Consider washing your hair every other day

The finishing touches to your new summer look shouldn’t be ignored and your hair is always likely to garner attention. Instead of washing your hair on a daily basis, consider switching to washing it every other day. Your hair produces natural oils and your new bi-daily washing routine will give your hair the opportunity to make the most of its natural luster.
