Sometimes you can work out too much and actually over-stress your muscles to the point where your workout will hurt your overall achievements. For instance, if you were to go to the gym today, and complete an arm workout, it is best to work out another muscle group, such as your legs, the next day. This will give your arms a chance to rest and build muscle.

If you work your arms out on Monday, then that means you should at the very least wait until Wednesday to work them out again. If you have an extremely strenuous workout, it is recommended that you wait at least a few days before your next lift.
It is completely up to determine your workout routine. But however you work out, it is important to remember to give your body a rest every once in a while. This rest period is critical for your body to build muscle. Remember, lifting weights and exercising actually breaks your muscle down.
However, during its rest period, your body actually creates new muscle fibers and builds them stronger than before. So for the most efficient way for you to build and gain muscle, make sure you take adequate rest between your core muscle workout routines.
