As experts say , Cayenne or Capsicum derives its name from the Greek word “bite”, thanks to the properties of hot spicy fruit and seeds. According to historians, cayenne pepper was imported to the UK from India in the mid 16th century. Around this time, it is mentioned that the plant is cultivated in the country. Swedish naturalist and physician Carl Linnaeus (1707 – 1778) has classified and described this plant called Capsicum Frutescens itself. The famous English botanist of Scottish descent Philip Miller (1691 – 1771), who is the author of The Gardener’s and Florists Dictionary (1724 ), also included this plant in his directory.

Botany believed that the Capsicum Frutescens plant comes from South America. According to scientists, the plant is a native of the tropics, but the original habitat is unclear.
