Certified Organic Skin Care

The Advantages Of Using Certified Organic Skin Care Products

Organic Skin Care – Our skin is an amazingly absorbent organ. Whilst this is a good thing for many reasons, it can also be a bit of a hindrance. That’s because, along with the good things it absorbs, like moisture and valuable antioxidants and nutrients, it also absorbs harmful stuff. If you’re using skin care products that contain potentially harmful chemicals, your skin will absorb those just as readily as it’ll absorb valuable nutrients, vitamins and antioxidants. Therefore, it pays to make sure everything you apply to your skin is beneficial. Or at the very least, not harmful!

Apply Fewer Toxins With Certified Organic Skin Care Brands

Sticking to certified organic skin care products and brands is one way of limiting the amount of potentially toxic chemicals you’re putting on your skin. These are products whose ingredients have been grown in environments free of artificial pesticides and herbicides, and which have not been treated with these types of chemicals. Likewise, the organic skin care manufacturing process is not supposed to add synthetic chemicals. Ideally therefore, the fact that a product is certified organic should mean it doesn’t contain any harmful substances but unfortunately this may not always be the case.

When An Organic Skin Care Product May Not Be Truly Organic

Some organic products, including body washes, shampoos, conditioners and moisturizers, do contain semi-synthetic ingredients. These ingredients are required to produce a viable product with some semblance of a decent shelf life. The major difference though between these ingredients and those you’ll find in non-organic products is that in order to comply with organic standards, these semi-synthetic ingredients must still be ‘naturally derived’.

This is why we always recommend that if you want to ensure you really are getting a genuinely organic product, know your ingredients! There is a wealth of information available online these days. Take the time to learn more about the typical ingredients found in skin care products so you can identify which ones are truly organic. And which chemicals really have no place in any organic product.

Preservatives – Necessary Even In Certified Organic Skin Care Products

Preservatives are a good example of added chemicals. All commercially produced skin care products, organic or not, require the use of some type of preservative. This prolongs shelf life and ensures the product remains fresh. Ideally, organic products will contain natural preservatives like essential oils and organic herbs with natural anti-bacterial and anti-fungal properties. Some may contain plant alcohols, which as the name indicates, are derived from plants rather than petroleum. The use of airtight packaging also helps preserve products by preventing bacteria from getting into the product. You may also see an ingredient called phenoxyethanol on some packaging. This is a semi-synthetic, paraben-free preservative approved for use in organic products. If you’re looking at products from France, they may contain benzyl alcohol, another approved preservative.

Choosing Natural Skin Care Brands The Best Organic Skin Care Approach

Despite this, choosing quality organic skin care products is still the best way to ensure that what you’re putting on your skin is predominantly natural. Many of these products also promote your skin’s own natural healing abilities. But ultimately, if you want the best organic skin care or skin care products that do not contain any preservatives or semi-synthetic substances whatsoever, you’ll probably need to learn to make your own or source a local supplier who can make them for you in small quantities on demand.
