As the New Orleans Saints champion quarterback, Drew Brees is currently one of the League’s best players. Indeed, from successful college football player to one largely overlooked in the 2001 draft, Drew Brees has come a long way.
Overcoming Physical Shortcomings – Did Drew Brees Supplements Help?
Drew is not tall. Or at least not for a professional quarterback. And therein lies much of the reason for his relatively low draft pick back in 2001. Even though he’d proved himself over and over as a college football student, professional selectors were doubtful. He isn’t tall enough. He seems to lack arm strength. He’s only been a good college football player because of the type of offense he played in. And so on.
Fortunately for Drew, the San Diego Chargers decided to take a punt on him. The rest, as they say, is history. Their 32nd pick, or 1st pick on the second round, paid off. Drew made their starting line-up in 2002. By 2004 he was considered good enough to earn a position in the Pro Bowl game for that year.
In 2006 Drew signed on as a free agent with the New Orleans Saints. It was a hugely successful move both for him and the Saints. They made Super Bowl XLIV in 2009, their first ever appearance in the big game. The Saints went on to defeat the Indianapolis Colts by a 14-point margin.
Since those auspicious beginnings Drew has gone on to more than justify the Saints’ faith in him. He has more touchdowns, passing yards and 300-yard games than any other NFL quarterback. He also holds career passing yards, career completion percentage, and career pass completion records. And lies 4th overall in career passing touchdowns. As well as holding other NFL records.
Additionally, he has been NFL Comeback Player of the Year (2004), Offensive Player of the Year (2008 / 2011) and the Super Bowl XLIV MVP. He was also named 2010 Sportsman of the Year by Sports Illustrated.
