What Every Man Should Know to Prevent Prostate Cancer

According to studies, men are more at risk of developing major illnesses in a faster pace than women. Unlike women, men tend to neglect symptoms they experience and had unwillingness to adopt a healthy lifestyle. They even refuse to have a quick visit with their doctor for an annual check-up as well.  With this, men more likely acquire diseases like cancer, and have the possibility to die from that particular illness.

Prostate cancer is one of the major diseases that affect men. It occurs when the cells within the prostate gland lost its regulation of cell growth and grows uncontrollably, making some small tumors. These tumors tend to outlive the normal cells and continue to create new, abnormal cells. Typically, a prostate cancer is composed of a variety of very minute tumors within the prostate.

When it is still a primary tumor, or the tumor is concentrated only on the particular area, prostate cancer is about 90 percent curable with standard interventions like radiation or surgery that act to kill and remove cancerous cells in the prostate. However, it is difficult to detect cancer at this moment as it only produces few or even no symptoms at all.

If prostate cancer is untreated earlier, the tumors tend to metastasize that is transported through the lymphatic system out in the bloodstream and distributed to other parts of the body, allowing secondary tumors grow on other parts of the body. With this, the cure rates are lesser.

Every year, thousands of men are diagnosed with prostate cancer. With these, there are several diagnostic screenings done in order to detect prostate cancer earlier. There is also number of tests available to confirm the degree of extent of the presence of prostate cancer. Tests such as digital rectal exam, prostate specific antigen test, and rectal biopsy confirms the possibility of prostate cancer.

When diagnosed with prostate cancer, men experience signs and symptoms that they must watch out for. Anatomically, prostate is located at the urinary tract, therefore, signs and symptoms of prostate cancer mainly centers on the urinary system. These symptoms are urinary frequency, urgency, hesitancy and nocturia.

These symptoms are direct result from the narrowed urethra closed by the enlarged prostate. Other symptoms one might experience include blood in the semen and urine, impotence, bone pain and loss of bladder control. If these symptoms are present, you need to seek medical help immediately.

However, men can prevent prostate cancer to happen. Lifestyle modification is one important factor in hampering and preventing the occurrence of prostate cancer. One should maintain a healthy weight. It has been proven that prostate cancer is more common in overweight and obese males.

Avoid too much red meat and fatty foods, as it contributes to the development of malignant cells. Eat the right amount and type of fruits and vegetables. Lastly, exercise regularly. Following these adjustments and sticking to it for the rest of your life will surely protect you from acquiring prostate cancer, promoting a healthy prostate and a well-body.
