Nutrition and health: fake thoughts on starchy foods, frozen and preserves. The objective of a new information campaign of the Ministry for Health launches and of the Inhabitant institute of prevention and education for Health (Inpes), is to bar the road with “persistent fake thoughts”, in particular on starchy foods, frozen and preserves.
The Ministry for Health launches with the Inhabitant institute of prevention and of education for Health (Inpes), within the framework of the Inhabitant plot Nutrition Health (PNS), launch a new campaign on the fruit consumption, vegetables and starchy foods, on television and on paper. The objective of this information campaign is to bar the road with “persistent fake thoughts”, in particular on starchy foods, frozen and preserves.
According to the last figures, 16,9% of the adults are obese in France, and 32,4% in overweight, of the data partly dependent on an unbalanced food. This is why the Inhabitant plot nutrition health, launched in 2001, fixed in particular like objectives “at least five fruit and vegetables per day” and “of starchy foods at each meal”.
If the reference marks of consumption worked out by the Inhabitant plot Nutrition Health (PNS) have today excellent dishonor near the French, their application still remains to be improved. It is in particular the case of the reference marks “At least 5 fruit and vegetables per day” and “Of starchy foods to each meal”. Also, the Ministry for health, youth, the sports and community life and the INPES developed a communication campaign in order to register these two reference marks of consumption in a daily context by taking of account the innumerable brakes with their adoption.
The comparison between the Barometer Health Nutrition of 1996 and that of 2002 made it possible to note a positive development of the opinion (thus more people choosing the excellent answer) with regard to starchy foods: 55,6% of the subjects thought that the allegation “are starchy make grow larger” was fake in 2002 compared with only 48% in 1996. But, this fake thought persists, mainly at the women. According to a qualitative study carried out by the INPES in 2007, the adults consider the reference mark relating to starchy foods (with each meal, according to the appetite) surprising. Indeed, it corresponds, in the collective representations, with products “to standardize” because “that made grow larger”. Consequently, the fact of suggesting consuming some “according to the appetite” is terribly accepted.
But, the nutritional interest is at several levels:
– they provide energy essential to the muscles, bodies and brain thanks to the glucids which they contain;
– they also provide plant proteins which, collective, can be invaluable in the event of food exactingly vegetarian. This combination must match a cereal product and a dry vegetable (examples: rice/lens; semolina/chick-pea; corn/kidney beans);
– they provide vitamins of the group B;
– they do not contain lipids;
– the complete cereals are very rich in fibres (of which the donations are insufficient in the contemporary food);
– they are satietogenes, i.e. they make it possible to fight against the suspicion of hunger.
Another fake thought on nutritional quality of the frozen products or out of preserve. Are the fruits and the vegetables really “better” expenses, very than frozen or out of preserves? Researchers of the INRA call into inquiry this prejudice but quite traditional, of the superiority of the fresh fruit and vegetables on the processed products. Carried out well, the preserve congelation and setting allow contrary to preserving a maximum of nutrients and vitamins.
The fruits and the vegetables provide vitamins (vitamin C mainly), rock salt and fibres. The composition of the fruits is close to that of vegetables but the content glucids (sugar) of the first is but higher. Sugars which they contain are mainly unadorned sugars like the fructose primarily, but also of saccharose and glucose.
If it is right that the fresh fruit and vegetables proliferate in benefits (Béta-carotene, vitamins has, B9, C, potassium, magnesium…), their conservation or their preparation (the unadorned fact of even washing to peel a fresh fruit or vegetable) before consumption deprives them of a significant proportion of their microphone-nutrients.
But these operations also make it possible to reduce the ingestion of residues of pesticides. The fresh fruits and vegetables keep at all events an obvious nutritional interest, in particular if they are cooked with the vapor.
The products frozen or out of preserves deserve special attention. The processed products “ensure a excellent safeguarding of the inside of microphone-nutrients”. “Those are all the more high as industrial harvests are more generally made with maturity fruits or vegetables and that the transformation intervenes quickly after harvest”. Other favors preserves and frozen: they are available all the year, and often less expensive,…
The maladjustment of the food supplies cannot, in general, being regarded as the direct cause of the diseases which are most widespread today in France (cancers, cardiovascular diseases, diabetes of the type 2, obesity, osteoporosis…). On the other hand, it is recognizable that this maladjustment takes part, in a way or of another, with their determinism. These diseases have a considerable weight in terms of broadcast health, whether it is in the field of morbidity or mortality.
