After years of struggling to add muscle to my body I have learned a few great and healthy ways to gain weight and add muscle to my body. I will share with you a few of the things I have learned throughout the years.
Not All Weight Gain is Healthy
I should tell you that I have been trying to gain weight for a few years now and I have tried just about everything under the sun. I remember once, I even ate at Burger King twice a day thinking the extra calories would help me pack on a few pounds. As I am sure you know that didn’t work out to well. Not only did I not gain any weight, but my energy plummeted and my workouts suffered. I have progressed since that experiment and for the past few years I have only been focusing on healthy ways to gain weight.
For starters, you need to understand that in order to gain weight you are going to have to eat more calories than you burn off in any given day. That means that if you want to gain muscle you are going to have to eat a lot of food since you will be working out at the same time! Not all food is created equal. I have learned this the hard way with my experiment with eating junk food twice per day. The real key to gaining the muscle and the weight you want is by eating specific foods at specific times of the day.
I started learning about healthy ways to gain weight by reading 100’s of articles on the bodybuilding.com forum. I read just about everything I could but like I said before it really was not until I got Vince’s Hardgainers Kit that I really understood the right way to do things. I will explain the basics with you today. There is pretty much three parts to gaining the weight you want. The first is doing the right exercises at the right time. The second is eating the right food and the third part is keeping track of your performance.
Do The Right Exercises
You have to follow a specific workout routine that stimulates your muscles to grow. If you think working out every day for two hours is a good place to start, you need to stop everything and get Vince’s course. You see that is what I thought at one point in my life. I used to work out at the gym 5 times a week. The problem with this is that your muscles will never grow if you do not give them enough time to rest after every workout.
The type of exercise you do is just as important as the rest and workout cycle. It is proven by science that certain exercises stimulate growth in certain muscles much better than other exercises. If you are lifting weights you need to refrain from doing single-joint exercises. Single-joint exercise just do not produce the results of the bigger multi-joint exercises like squats, deadlifts, and presses. When you do this, often tougher, multi-joint exercises your body naturally produces hormones that aid in building muscle. That’s what you’re looking for!
Eat the Right Foods
If you are talking about healthy ways to gain weight then about seventy percent of the conversation should be about the types of food you eat and the amount of food you eat. As I learned so well, eating at Burger King, or what in the physical fitness world we call eating “empty calories”, does not build muscle! Let me repeat this to really make it stand out in your mind. Eating “empty calories” does NOT build muscle.
If you are eating processed food or fast food you will not build muscle. There is a chance you will gain weight, but I promise you it will not be muscle and it will definitely not be supportive of your health. The key to gaining weight the healthy way is to eat a lot of highly nutritious foods. Your body needs a balance of protein, fats, and carbohydrates with every meal. The more you are working out the more protein you are going to need.
You are also going to need to eat more meals through the day. The standard three meals a day is not going to work if you are really trying to gain weight. You are going to need to eat at least five to six meals spaced through the day. And remember, you need compensate for the calories you burned doing your workout.
Monitor and Record Your Performance
Track your results! This is really a key to making sure you get the results you want and for making sure you stay committed to your goal of a healthy weight gain. If you are not monitoring the amount of calories you are eating everyday it is very easy to eat too little and not even know it. This idea of tracking my exercises and tracking what I eat everyday made a big difference in helping me gain the weight I wanted. If you are not currently tracking what you eat and what exercises you are doing every day you are just simply not committed to gaining the weight and size you desire.
The Bottom Line
If you are like me then building muscle is not an easy accomplishment. It took me several years of really hard work and not much progress until I came across Vince’s Hardgainers Kit and finally learned the methods that helped me get the body I have always wanted. I have discussed some of the basic healthy ways to gain weight with you today. If you follow these methods you can and you will gain weight. You don’t need Vince’s material to succeed; it just makes everything a lot easier.
I would like to say that gaining weight can be a very easy thing to do if you know how to do it and you are really committed to your goal. If you think you can exercise and workout one week and lay around eating whatever you please the next week and you will be able to gain weight I have some news for you. It doesn’t work like that! You need to be committed to gaining weight and follow proven methods for getting it done.
