Not even a decent Landon Collins workout used to be able to prevent the New York Giants’ strong safety from packing on the pounds. When he was drafted back in 2015, the former University of Alabama player weighed in at around 240 pounds. Problem is, he only stands 6’ high, prompting some to describe him as having a “linebacker’s build on a safety’s frame.” This extra weight he was lugging around undoubtedly contributed to his less than sparkling rookie season for his new team.
Lifting Oreos No Longer Part Of A Landon Collins Workout
At the end of that season he made a decision. One of the loves of his life would have to go. Those vanilla Oreos he was wont to scoff down in one sitting had to become a thing of the past. Reports indicate that during his university days he was eating as many as 225 a week! Here’s a quick look at the nutritional break down of an Oreo. One serving of the popular icing filled chocolate cookie, which is 3 cookies in total, contains:
- 160 calories (58 of which are fat whilst the remainder are carbs) equating to 7 grams of total fat or 11% of the recommended daily intake. Two of those grams are saturated fat which is 10% of the RDI for saturated fat,
- 190 mgs of sodium (8% of the RDI)
- 25 grams of carbohydrates (8% of the RDI)
- 14 grams of sugar (the RDI for men is 37.5 grams / 9 teaspoons)
To be eating 225 a week, Landon would have needed to consume around 32 Oreos daily. That’s almost 11 servings! Multiply the above by 11 and you can understand his weight problems. It’s nearly 4 times the RDI of sugar alone. It also explains how he was able to lose so much weight simply by removing them from his diet.
