Meridia diet drugs are an oral prescription medication used for the medical management of obesity including weight loss and the maintenance of weight loss. To really be effective, Meridia diet drugs should be used in conjunction with a reduced calorie diet, exercise and proper behavior modification, if necessary. To maintain weight loss or to continue to lose additional weight after stopping a regimen of Meridia diet drugs, it is necessary to continue or begin following a sensible eating plan and an exercise program. Since it was first approved in 1997, more than 8.5 million people in more than 70 countries have used Meridia diet drugs for the management of obesity.

Meridia Diet Drugs: Prescriptions

Meridia diet drugs are typically prescribed for people needing to lose 30 pounds or more depending on height. Patients being treated with Meridia diet pills should see their doctor as directed for regular follow-up visits, during which the doctor can carefully monitor overall health including blood pressure and pulse rate.

Take Meridia diet drugs orally exactly as directed by your doctor, usually once daily. You may need to wait four to six weeks in order to realize the full weight loss effect. Do not increase your dose in an attempt to expedite your weight loss results or you will most likely experience severe Meridia side effects. Also, do not take Meridia diet drugs for longer periods of time than prescribed in an attempt to lose more weight or to counteract bad eating habits during the regimen. Meridia diet drugs are or can be habit-forming. To top it all off, it is not recommended that you cease taking Meridia diet drugs suddenly after being on the regimen for a long period of time. Always consult with your doctor regarding the correct period of time to be on this regimen and perhaps when to purchase Meridia online or at a pharmacy. Of course, your doctor has the final say. Over time, Meridia 10mg & Meridia 15mg may not work as well as they did in the beginning. Consult your doctor if weight increases.

Meridia Diet Pills

Meridia diet pills vary in dosages. Meridia diet pills in 10mg doses are the recommended starting dose administered to patients once daily with or without food. If the patient does not experience adequate weight loss after a period of 4 weeks (remember it takes 4-6 weeks to experience the weight loss you’re looking for with Meridia diet drugs), the dosage can be increased to Meridia 15mg administered once daily. Usually Meridia diet pills in 5mg doses is reserved for patients that suffer side effects from Meridia 10mg. Heart rate and blood pressure should be considered when making decisions regarding Meridia diet pill dosage levels. Your doctor will advise you on the proper dosage level to purchase. Meridia diet pills taken in doses above 15mg doses per day are not recommended. In most Meridia diet pill trials, Meridia was administered in the morning.

What happens if someone you know suffers from a Meridia diet pill overdose? Although there is limited overdose experience to report, these three instances of Meridia diet pill overdose occurred without serious incident. The first instance occurred in a 2-year old child of one patient who ingested up to 8 Meridia diet pills, each being 10mg capsules. No complications were observed during the overnight stay at the hospital. The child was subsequently discharged from the hospital the following day without complications. The second Meridia diet pill overdose instance occurred in a 30-year old male engaged in a depression study. He ingested approximately 100mg of Meridia diet pills in an apparent attempt to commit suicide. The patient suffered no complications or ECG abnormalities. The third instance occurred in a 45-year old husband of a patient in an obese dyslipidemic study. He ingested 400mg of his wife’s Meridia diet pill supply and was hospitalized for observation after the physicians noted a heart rate of 120 beats per minute (bpm). He, however, was discharged the next day with no apparent sequels or aftereffects.

Meridia Diet Pill Dosing
If you miss a dose of the Meridia diet pill, take it as soon as you remember. If it is near the time of the next dose, skip the missed dose and resume your usual dosing schedule. Do not double the Meridia diet pill dose to catch up.

After you purchase Meridia online or, again, at a local pharmacy of your choosing, you should stored it away from light and moisture at room temperature between 59 and 86 degrees Fahrenheit (15-30 degrees Celsius). Keep it and all medications out of the reach of children.

Meridia Side Effects

The most common Meridia side effects include headache, drowsiness, dry mouth, anorexia, constipation and insomnia. Meridia diet drugs are a controlled substance and as a controlled substance dependency issues can always arise. If Meridia side effects due to dependency or overdose persist or worsen, notify your doctor promptly.

Patients typically are advised that Meridia side effects can occur if they are taking prescription medicines called monoamine oxidase inhibitors, also known as MAOIs, which are sometimes used to treat depression or Parkinson’s disease. To avoid Meridia side effects, do not ingest MAO Inhibitors and Meridia together and if one or the other drug is part of your regimen and you cease to take it, make sure to wait two weeks before beginning a regimen that includes the other drug.

Meridia side effects can become bothersome and potentially dangerous if you use other diet drugs or fat reducing agents. Make sure to inform your doctor of all non-prescription and prescription medication you use. Also, you run the risk of inducing Meridia side effects by really combining your diet drug regimen with any drug. These following drugs are absolutely not recommended for use: decongestant drugs that can raise blood pressure such as pseudo ephedrine or phenylpropanolamine, or cough suppressants like dextromethorphan, or antidepressants like nefazodone, fluoxetine, paroxetine, sertraline, fluvoxamine, venlafaxine, or lithium or other psychiatric medications (e.g., MAO Inhibitors such as selegiline, moclobemide, furazolidone, phenelzine, tranylcypromine).

Additional Meridia Side Effects

Additional Meridia side effects can occur if you take drugs for migraines (e.g., dihydroergotamine, sumatriptan), tryptophan, certain narcotic pain relievers (e.g., meperidine, pentazocine, fentanyl), ketoconazole, erythromycin, high blood pressure medicine or any drugs that can cause drowsiness, including certain antihistamines (e.g., diphenhydramine), sedatives and anti-seizure drugs. Antihistamines and decongestants may be found in many nonprescription drugs for cough and cold so be careful even when you have a touch of the flu. Always consult your pharmacist or doctor if you are considering combining any drug. It is better to ask than to be subject to intense Meridia side effects.

Meridia diet drugs should not be used in patients with a history of coronary artery disease, arrhythmias, congestive heart failure, or stroke. Meridia side effects in this regard include a substantial increase in blood pressure and heart rate in some patients so regular monitoring of blood pressure is required. Meridia diet drugs should also be given with caution to those patients with a history of hypertension and are usually not given to patients with uncontrolled or poorly controlled hypertension.

To avoid unnecessary Meridia side effects, make sure to inform your doctor of your entire medical history including any allergies (especially drug allergies), liver or kidney disease, high blood pressure or heart disease, a history of stroke or seizures, certain eating disorders (e.g., anorexia nervosa), glaucoma (narrow angle), or if you have a history of gallstones. Absolutely limit your alcohol intake. It is preferable that you cease your alcohol intake during your Meridia regimen.

It is recommended that women of child-bearing age should use effective birth control while taking Meridia diet drugs. Meridia is not recommended for use during pregnancy. Studies are inconclusive as to whether it is excreted into breast milk so it is not worth the chance that it could pass into the system of the nursing child. Moreover, Meridia side effects may be more acute with the elderly due to age and increased sensitivities. Lower doses of Meridia diet pills may be required. You also purchase Meridia online or locally in lower doses so accommodate any increased sensitivities.
