Pregnancy Week by Week – Week 21

Your baby has grown to 8 ½ inches long and weighs 12 ounces. The eyelids of the baby are completely formed at the 21st week of pregnancy and the baby’s movements rapidly increase. He also swallows amniotic fluid while moving around. This will lead to the maturing of his digestive tract.

The baby will not be in the same schedule as you are and you’ll feel the baby’s movements more significantly. Your baby will also be receiving some of the caloric intake from the amniotic fluid. If it is a baby girl, then her vagina gets fully formed at this stage but will continue to develop until her birth.

You may begin to develop varicose veins which occur to some degree in the majority of pregnant women because of their excess weight. While these mostly occur in the legs they can also develop in the vulva and rectum. The growing uterus and blood flow changes can make varicose veins worse.

A painless purple or blue spot on their legs may be noticed by some women, while others may develop swollen veins that are painful. You can keep your legs in a elevated position to get relief from these symptoms. While the swelling may disappear by itself after pregnancy, the varicose veins will not disappear fully.

You should take sufficient rest and can keep your face and body clean by frequent baths and washing at least twice a day. Some women may experience skin breakouts, rashes etc. These can be the major pregnancy symptoms at the 21st week. You might also experience lower back pain and pain in the ankles and feet. Many women enjoy this part of pregnancy the most. They get used to the feeling of being pregnant and await the D-day. The pregnancy diet must be rich of vitamins and minerals and must be adequate to meet the needs of the growing baby.

Pregnancy in the 21st week is an interesting in which the mother is able to experience the baby’s movements significantly. She can talk or sing to her baby which can be fully well heard by the baby. Your bundle of joy is getting to develop fully and you can await the day of delivery by following some healthy tips – like healthy diet and exercise.
