Pre workout supplements are well known for their laundry lists of ingredients, but among the top products they share a lot of the same main ingredients. These are ingredients that have been proven safe and effective, and typically indicators of a high quality product.
As long as you don’t overdo it, caffeine can be great to help your focus and energy levels. Many lifters take caffeine supplements by themselves because of their effectiveness. The best thing about caffeine is that it has been studied so thoroughly over the years, so you can have full confidence in the science behind it.
Beta-Alanine (BA) is a specific amino acid which the body uses in order to make something called Carnosine. Why do you want to boost carnosine production? Because carnosine reduces lactic acid formation, which will help you in just about any type of exercise.
This is another supplement that is popular to take by itself, but many pre workout supplements do include it anyways. Creatine taken over time will help you push yourself harder in the gym. Creatine is stored as phosphocreatine in your muscles, which is used when they need to get energy fast (by regenerating Adenosine Tri Phosphate).
However, just because a supplement does or does not have these 3 ingredients doesn’t mean that it’s a good or bad product, this is just the first thing you should start with.
I wanted to bring attention to something that should be talked about more often, gym safety. There are over 50,000 emergency room visits as a result of injuries sustained at the gym every year. The number one malicious piece of equipment? You guessed it, the treadmill.
The majority of these injuries are caused by fatigue and unawareness. For example you are more likely to trip over something or drop a weight on your foot if you are tired or aren’t paying attention. Also, note that you could hurt others around you, which is why you really shouldn’t go to the gym when fatigued. However, most people do anyways.
My Solution: Pre Workout Supplements
It may not be the most obvious one, but it is a solution that I believe can help prevent a solid percentage of these injuries. If we look at the benefits of pre workout supplements, we see that they primarily help with energy levels and focus. These are coincidentally the 2 most important things in this discussion.
So what does this mean for you? Bottom line is that you hopefully now know that there are tons of serious injuries that occur at the gym because of fatigue. These are preventable injuries and you need to watch out for yourself or others. If you feel like you can’t be focused and aware in the gym, either try taking a pre workout supplement or take a day off.
